Fire alarms in many dorm rooms on campus will be updated to include louder sirens and a system to pinpoint where a fire is located. Walt Miller, vice president for Student Life, said Santa Ana Hall and Santa Clara Hall are being upgraded this semester. The two-building project this semester cost $250,000.
Student regents get to sit at the table with government-appointed, middle-aged businesspeople and take part in million-dollar decisions that affect the future of UNM. This year, Cate Wisdom will be the first undergraduate to take the student regent seat, and she intends to make the most of it.
UNM's School of Law is looking to hire a dean this semester. Four finalists will interview for the position on campus this month and next. Provost Suzanne Ortega is heading the search committee, and Deputy Provost Richard Holder said a decision should be announced around March, two to four weeks after the interviews are finished.
