GPSA will lobby for SEED Act

UNM’s Graduate and Professional Student Association Lobby Committee is working on how best to brand their bill, the SEED Act, in order to garner legislative support. The goal of the Statewide Entrepreneurial Economic Development Act is to create an appropriation for investments on behalf of the state by using a portion of state funding.

Court stops required flu shots

UNM Hospital employees will not have to receive mandatory flu shots — for now. On Tuesday, the Second District Judicial Court granted a temporary stay of disciplinary action with regard to employees’ complaint about UNMH’s implementation of mandatory flu shots.

UNMH sticks to its guns on vaccines

UNMH will not negotiate with a union of employees that filed a complaint regarding mandatory flu vaccines for hospital staff last month, according to a counter-statement filed by the hospital. In the counter-statement to the UNM Labor Management Relations Board on Monday, UNMH argues that “the union wholly fails to demonstrate that the union or its members will suffer irreparable injury by implementation of the policy”

HSC funding up but still dicey

While sequestration and funding cuts to the National Institutes of Health have heavily affected scientific research across the U.S., the UNM Health Sciences Center has seen an increase in NIH research funding and in additional extramural funding overall.

Required flu shots at UNM Hospital draw complaint

UNM Hospital employees have filed a complaint against UNMH administration about its decision to make flu vaccines mandatory for all staff. On Thursday, UNMH union members released their “Prohibitive Practices Complaint” against the hospital in order to negotiate the terms of the mandate and how employees will be affected.

Some may lose UNMH providers

Contract renegotiations between insurance provider Presbyterian Health Plan and UNM’s Health Sciences Center have left some patients looking for a new primary care provider. PHP members who use UNMH as their primary care, which includes family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics, can continue to see their UNMH providers until Dec. 31.
