Staff Report Despite picking up its biggest wins of the season at the Cal State Fullerton tournament, the New Mexico softball team capped the weekend with only two wins in five games. Opening the tournament on Friday, the Lobos (15-11) lost its first two games in Fullerton, California with a 4-3 10-inning setback to Arkansas then a 6-1 decision to Alabama.
New Mexico has announced the signing of Stan Eggen as the newest member of Bob Davie’s football coaching staff. The day after Davie received a contract extension through the 2021 season, the head coach appointed Eggen as the defensive line coach.
New Mexico has taken notice of Bob Davie’s winning football season and bowl appearance, the first since 2007, and has locked up the head coach through 2021. Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs announced on Monday morning that Davie signed a two-year extension with UNM, the second extension during his tenure as a Lobo.
New Mexico got off to less than an ideal start to open up the 2015-2016 season in its three day trip to the Park City Invitational in Utah. UNM finished off the opening competition of the season in fifth place with a final score of 214. The men finished in 6th place as a while the women finished in fourth during the event which lasted from Jan. 4 through Jan. 6.
This year’s roster for the New Mexico ski team knows what it’s like to be successful, returning several skiers from last year’s team that finished fifth at NCAAs. The Lobos, who kick off their season opener at Park City for the University of Utah invitational on Jan.
New Mexico forward Niko Hansen and defender Nicholas Rochowski both earned Conference USA Player of the Week awards, marking the second week this season the Lobos have taken both awards.

The UNM School of Law has promoted three faculty members. Camille Carey has been promoted to the position of professor, and Yael Zakai Cannon and Alex Ritchie have been designated as associate professors, according to a UNM press release. “Carey and Cannon teach in the law school’s pioneering, mandatory Clinical Program that trains students how to practice law.
The UNM Division of Student Affairs, in collaboration with El Mezquite Market, will host the annual Mezquite Golf Tournament on Friday. The tournament is aiming to raise funds for scholarships for UNM students, according to a UNM press release. “We are grateful each year for the generosity of El Mezquite Market owner Sergio Bermudez, who brings together a number of donors to contribute to a worthy cause,” Dr. Eliseo ‘Cheo’ Torres, vice president for UNM Student Affairs, said in the press release.
The UNMPD arrested a man who was accused of harassing and physically attacking a female student.
