The newly remodeled Flying Star Café in Nob Hill is back open and ready for business. The cafe now sports a unique, upscale flare that reflects its location in Nob Hill.
Community members enjoy prickly pear feast together. The fruit of prickly pears are said to taste like a combination of bubblegum and watermelon, and can be made into candy, jam or beverages, or eaten raw, although some people do not like to eat the hard edible seeds.
The edible parts of the prickly pear cactus are known as “tunas”. They are the purple-red flowers growing off of the green cactus leaves and can be eaten after the skin and quills are cut off.
A workshop participant removes the seeds from the inside of the fruit, one of the first steps in preparing it to be eaten.
Cirrelda Snider-Bryan uses a colander to extract the juice from the prepared fruits. She works in collaboration with the New Mexico Natural History Museum to organize community events such as this Prickly Pear Harvest.

Erosion has revealed a motorcycle helmet that has been buried under multiple layers of dirt.
It appears that locals also use these vehicles and other objects that have been dumped in the area as target practice, leaving them with hundreds of bullet holes.
A collection of vehicles have been dumped and now rest about two hundred feet downhill. Many of the cars have been dismantled and are covered in a layer of dirt and rust.
Desert plants have made their home amongst this industrial graveyard.
