Student groups get a day of their own

Free food and information on student organizations was provided at the Duck Pond on Thursday during Student Organization Day. The Christian Student Center, Medieval Studies Student Association, Knit Knack and the Queer Straight Alliance were among the many groups represented.

Day focuses on culture, women's issues

Welcome Back Days' Wednesday event aimed to prepare students for the real world by making them aware of cultural and women's issues. Susi Knoblauch of the International Programs and Studies Department said traveling abroad to experience culture is an opportunity students shouldn't miss.

UNM literary, arts magazine celebrates 30th anniversary

Writers, poets, painters, musicians and art lovers gathered as Conceptions Southwest, UNM's fine arts and literary magazine, celebrated the release of its 30th issue. Since 1978, the magazine has served as a creative outlet for the University community. Clara Boling, Conceptions Southwest editor, said choosing what goes into the magazine is a democratic process.

'Night' raises awareness about violence

About 150 people gathered at Johnson Field on Friday to raise awareness for sexual and domestic violence. The event, called Take Back the Night, included a candlelight vigil in remembrance of the silence associated with abuse. Event coordinator Molly Maguire-Marshall said she was pleased with the community support.

UNM services aim to encourage mental wellness

Students, staff and faculty received information about mental health Wednesday outside the SUB for Mental Health Awareness Day. Event coordinator Christine Tally said the most common mental disorders seen at the Student Health Center are depression and anxiety.
