Event promotes healthy kids

More than 5,000 people attended the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation's Dia del Nino celebration Saturday. The center, in partnership with New Mexico Children, Youth and Families, sponsored the event to promote healthy, literate children and families in New Mexico.

UNM cuts dorm services to save on housing costs

UNM is cutting dorm costs by stripping services. Telephones were taken out of the dorms at the beginning of the fall semester. Housekeeping services in the apartments were discontinued, and students no longer get HBO. Dupuy Bateman, director of Student Housing, said the money saved will be reinvested in the dorms.

Students exchange culture at festival (Slideshow)

Students from around the world shared their culture, customs and cuisine with the UNM community on Thursday. The Office of International Programs and Studies held its annual International Festival and Study Abroad Fair at Cornell Mall. About 20 booths represented dozens of countries, including Turkey, India and Russia.

Schmidly uses Web to outline goals

President David Schmidly discussed the future of UNM during a Web cast Tuesday. Students, staff and faculty tuned in and watched the Web cast around campus. About 15 people watched the Web cast in the SUB Theater. Schmidly said UNM must become a role model for higher education.

Web cast to address UNM's future

President David Schmidly will produce a live Web cast today for students, staff and faculty. Schmidly said he will talk about his strategic plans for UNM and its future. "If the University tends to just live year to year, I think that's a real mistake with no clear vision or sense of where you're trying to go," he said.

Magazine: Rio Rancho a top city for business

In the upcoming April issue of Fortune's Small Business Magazine, Rio Rancho ranked 83rd in the magazine's "100 best places to live and launch." The top spot on the list was rewarded to Bellevue, Wash. Georgetown, Texas; Burford, Ga.; Marina del Rey, Calif.
