The University put students to work to make campus more sustainable. A Community and Regional Planning class was employed to research practical ways to increase sustainability, instructor Bill Fleming said.
Locally grown, organic produce is coming to UNM. "There is support for locally grown food on both ends of campus," said Carol Scott, operations manager for UNM Food Services. "So, starting in the spring semester, we will also offer organic, local choices at the Marketplace in the SUB."
About 40 students gathered in the SUB on Tuesday to discuss campus issues with ASUNM senators. ASUNM's first forum received a larger turnout than expected, Sen. Joe Sanchez said.
Students can give their 2 cents about UNM today in the SUB. ASUNM will host an open forum at 7 p.m. It will be a town hall meeting for students to ask questions and express concerns to senators and the Office of the President.
For the past 20 years, students have participated in the same end-of-semester ritual: filling out the ICES evaluations. But UNM is looking to replace ICES, because it's outdated, said Nick Flor, UNM Teaching and Technology faculty coordinator.
Student Cody Grassham wrapped a blanket tightly around a squirming newborn. Within seconds, the baby quieted and Grassham went to work, attaching small sensors and earphones to the sleeping infant.
The Link slate took all the open seats in this semester's ASUNM Senate election Wednesday. There were 10 students on the slate and 10 open Senate seats. Twelve candidates ran in the election.
Candidates running in the ASUNM Senate election have one common goal: student involvement. The 12 candidates are vying to fill 10 Senate seats for the spring semester.
The October death of a student in Brooklyn, N.Y., raised concern that his killer, a mutated form of a common bacterium, could appear at schools around the country. The Staphylococcus aureus bacterium, known as the staph infection, has the potential to cause a varying degree of illness from skin infections to death, said Beverly Kloeppel, director of the UNM Student Health Center.
