Radio announcer initiated

On an early-season bus trip in February, coach Ray Birmingham and the UNM baseball team put Robert Portnoy, the radio play-by-play announcer who was beginning his new job calling Lobo games, through an initiation test.

UNM’s award-winning green initiatives unknown to students

This is the third year in a row that UNM has been included on “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 322 Green Colleges,” which focuses on institutions that have shown a commitment to sustainability and the environment. The listing reflects the ongoing efforts of the University and its faculty, staff and students in creating a more energy efficient and greener place of learning.



	Andrew Cullen, associate vice president for the Office of Planning and Budget Analysis, discusses UNM’s debt portfolio in a Board of Regents meeting Tuesday morning. In his presentation, Cullen said UNM is currently $575.7 million in debt.

UNM's debt at $575.7 million

In a presentation at a Board of Regents meeting Tuesday morning, Andrew Cullen, associate vice president of the Office of Planning and Budget Analysis, said the University has an outstanding balance of $575.7 million with regard to its projects’ bonds. He said the University expects to pay the outstanding balance by 2036, although future projects might still result to more debt in the future.

Health center sets lofty goals

UNM’s Health Sciences Center has developed a new strategic plan to accommodate future changes in the state’s health care sector. According to a presentation made by Vice Chancellor for Research Richard Larson at a UNMH Board of Directors meeting on Friday, the HSC aims to “make more progress in health and health equity than any other state by 2020.”

MLB drafts seven Lobos

There was never any doubt that the New Mexico baseball team had talent. The 2013 MLB draft emphasized that fact with seven Lobos drafted over the course of three days, setting a new record for UNM players drafted in a single year.

What to do with SAE house?

The Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity building sits vacant after the University revoked the fraternity’s charter on May 24 for violations of the UNM Student Code of Conduct. SAE has until Wednesday to appeal the revocation to the dean of students. But if the appeal is denied, what will happen to the vacant fraternity building?
