UNM recently accepted millions of dollars to study diabetes. The National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded a $2.8 million grant to the UNM Health Sciences Center earlier this month.

ABQ Derby team heads to Iowa

The goals of the Muñecas Muertas roller derby team are simple: skate hard, win bouts and beat up girls. Now the team is taking its goals to Iowa for the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association’s (WFTDA) Division II tournament.

UNM to back small, emergency student loans

A new needs-based microlending program at UNM will allow students to pay back their loans by doing well in school. UNM will collaborate with the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union on a program called “Powering Success: Micro Aid for Educational Achievement,”

UNM graduation rates up

UNM awarded more diplomas this year than in each of the past 24 years. According to a document from the office of the provost, the University’s six-year graduation rate, which is at 47.3 percent, is its highest since it first released numbers in 1989.

Lobos believe in Davie’s program

Fans and the media might not yet be buying into the New Mexico football team, but its players are. At the team’s media day Aug. 1, head coach Bob Davie said all 115 players on the roster have decided to stay at UNM: a 100 percent retention rate, a rarity in college sports.
