Football: Lobos drop home finale to Colorado State

Powered by running back Kapri Bibbs’ 291 yards and six touchdowns, Colorado State defeated New Mexico 59-42 in the Lobos’ home finale at University Stadium. Bibbs six scores tied the Mountain West Conference record for most rushing touchdowns in a single game. Nevada’s Stefphon Jefferson had six on Sept. 22, 2013.

Abortion protester arrested on campus

An abortion protester was arrested on campus Thursday afternoon in the midst of recent weeks’ abortion ban debates on campus. UNM Police Department arrested Rives Grogan, 48, in the south side of Zimmerman Library, according to the police report.

Abortion showdown in front of Bookstore

Anti-abortion activists showed up to support the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance in front of the UNM Bookstore on Thursday. The anti-abortion demonstrators were from the California-based organization Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust.

Volleyball: Lobos to face Wyoming

The New Mexico volleyball team’s fight for second place in the Mountain West Conference continues without one of its starters. Freshman Julia Warren is out with a leg injury. The Lobos lost 3-1 at No. 10 CSU on Thursday night. Junior right side hitter Chantale Riddle had 19 kills, 12 digs and 6 blocks in the loss.

The “Team You for ASUNM” slate dominated Wednesday’s elections for the Associated Students of the University of New Mexico senate. Eight of the 10 senators who were elected for a full senatorial term ran with Team You.

Voter turnout way up this cycle

Wednesday’s voter turnout for the Associated Students of the University of New Mexico senate election broke records. According to data from ASUNM’s Elections Commission, 1,705 students cast their ballots in this semester’s elections.

Number of senators stays the same

A proposed Associated Students of the University of New Mexico constitutional amendment to expand the number of senators from 20 to 24 failed to pass Wednesday night. ASUNM Sen. Earl Shank, who co-wrote Amendment One, said the amendment aimed to increase representation for students.

ASUNM senator elections today

Today, students have the opportunity to elect 10 Associated Students of the University of New Mexico (ASUNM) senators. According to the ASUNM Law Book, there will be eight locations on campus for students to vote at. Locations include the Student Union Building, Zimmerman Library, Student Residence Center Commons, Johnson Center, Dane Smith Hall, Casas del Rio, Mesa Vista Hall, Regener Hall and the Engineering complexes.

Immigration film draws protest

Protesters rallied at the Student Union Building on Monday night in response to a movie that deemed undocumented immigration “illegal.” The film, titled “They Came to America: The Cost of Illegal Immigration,” led to the protest because of its title and its depiction of undocumented immigrants.

Student organizations at UNM are pushing for a new wellness center on campus. Students, staff and community members looked at nine potential amenities packages Monday at the Student Union Building for the planned wellness center and voted on which they most wanted.

UNM investments in fossil fuel companies criticized

Members of 350.org New Mexico are once again calling for UNM to drop its investments in fossil fuel companies. State group 350 NM was one of several participants with that goal in mind at a meeting held at the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice, along with UNM students and community members.

Required flu shots at UNM Hospital draw complaint

UNM Hospital employees have filed a complaint against UNMH administration about its decision to make flu vaccines mandatory for all staff. On Thursday, UNMH union members released their “Prohibitive Practices Complaint” against the hospital in order to negotiate the terms of the mandate and how employees will be affected.

Nine honored with diversity awards

UNM celebrated its guardians of diversity in Student Union Building ballrooms Friday morning. In the fourth annual Presidential Luminaria Awards, University administrators recognized students, faculty, staff and organizations who exemplify equity and inclusion on campus. Nine awardees got one of the coveted trophies.

Urlacher honored during halftime ceremony

Brian Urlacher, heralded by many as the best New Mexico football player of all time. had his No. 44 officially retired during a halftime ceremony Friday night at University Stadium. Urlacher played for four years in the last 90s before becoming one of the top linebackers in the NFL. Following the ceremony, Urlacher answered questions from Albuquerque media.
