Spahn proud of team as season nears end

The UNM swimming and diving team's season ended this weekend, with only the Mountain West Conference Championships Feb. 14-17 in Oklahoma City, Okla., remaining. Coach Bill Spahn said the conference championship is the most important meet of the year and the team will take 17 swimmers and two divers to the meet with the hope that some will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.

Parts of N.M. in state of emergency

Richard Nunn of Hobbs was on his way to Albuquerque when he skidded off the icy road south of Vaughn. "I'm not very happy," Nunn said Tuesday after hitching a ride to Vaughn, where he waited for a wrecker to come deal with his car.

Group assails Bush order

A global women's issues panel at the UNM Law School Tuesday raised lingering concerns about President George W. Bush's recent action on reproductive rights. The order, signed during the elder Bush's administration and suspended when Bill Clinton was elected, blocks U.S. funds for groups that provide abortions and counseling internationally.

Company captivates crowd

The audience at the Kiva Auditorium sat spellbound as the dancers of the Brigham Young University Ballroom Dance Company showcased their talent in a seemingly flawless performance Friday night. At times, the BYU dancers seemed to defy gravity and float across stage.
