Men face Memphis in The Pyramid

The UNM men's basketball team is in Memphis, Tenn., today as one of eight teams remaining in the NIT, for a quarterfinal game against the University of Memphis. The winner travels to the Big Apple for the NIT final-four next week.

Senate passes <i>Lobo</I> funding cut

The ASUNM Senate approved a constitutional amendment that proposes elimination of all funding the undergraduate student government allocates to the New Mexico Daily Lobo — which is $38,000, or 5 percent of the paper’s budget. The bill eliminates student funding of the paper but increases funding for Conceptions Southwest and Best Student Essays from 2 percent to 3 percent of the student fees the Associated Students of UNM receive annually.

Staff vote will settle union’s fate

Ona Savage, a union organizer and UNM staff member, said her faith in people has motivated her to continue to push for collective bargaining despite more than six years of hurdles. “I believe that we can make a difference,” she said. “I have served on committees for over 15 years with little results, and I believe that a union can make a difference.”

Director John Herzfeld’s new action movie “15 Minutes” is a movie that shows just how far people will go for 15 minutes of fame. Robert De Niro gives a stellar performance as Eddie Flemming, a tough New York City homicide detective, who is constantly in the media’s spotlight. A spotlight so bright that it seems as though he gets no work done.

Baseboard Heaters rock a small crowd

Baseboard Heaters rocked all 13 people in attendance at the Golden West Saloon concert Monday night. On its CD release tour with the band Mountain Con from Seattle, and on its way from South By Southwest, Baseboard Heaters knew within minutes of walking into the Golden West that it had not been booked at one of Albuquerque’s trendiest venues.
