Candidates ignore real crime

We are in another election for mayor, and I hear again candidates pushing the emotional hot button issue of crime to attract votes. But, I have not heard any of the candidates say anything about the largest criminal gang operating the city, and hope they will before the election is over.

COLUMN: Labels paint ethnicity with broad strokes

One of the joys of school in the modern day is the endless forms we are constantly asked to fill out. Standardized tests, surveys, teacher evaluations - you name it. Along with other demographic information, one question we always have to answer these days is "ethnicity."

COLUMN: Jews must not aid in oppression

The first Zionists were Jewish socialists. They were not concerned with reclaiming "the Holy Land." They didn't even consider Palestine to be the only possible location for a Jewish state. Their goal was to create a safe haven, a place where the Jews of the world would no longer have to fear violence and oppression.

Column promoted, blasted censorship

In response to Jeremy Reynalds' column "Pro-pot song should be banned" from the Aug. 30 Daily Lobo, I can't help but laugh at the absurdity and hypocrisy of his article. I find it rather curious that a guy who writes a column for a newspaper and ex-sometimes-radio-show-host would argue for censorship.

Several G Lot parking permits up for grabs

When Parking and Transportation Services set sales ratios for the G and South Lots, we considered not only the capacity of the parking lots but that of the shuttle systems, as well. We have come closer than ever to balancing the two routes and ensuring that all our park and ride customers receive the same quality service.

Reynalds' music ban rhetoric is offensive

It is great to see Jeremy Reynalds writing for the Lobo again this semester. I certainly respect what he does for homeless people and enjoy his commentary, even though most of his rhetoric is misguided in my opinion.

`In Between' requires patience

A few recommendations for viewing the Riverside Ensemble's latest "theatrical poem," "In Between." 1) Forget the character names listed in the program - they won't help greatly. Indeed, Joe Pesce's protagonist - or at least the focus of the flurry of stage activity about to erupt before you - is called "Nameless One."

Stop blaming media for things dumb people do to themselves

I think we would be a lot better off if more people croaked, and instead of blaming the media or moral values, we just let it be that it is natural for unintelligent people do unintelligent things and get themselves killed or aversely affect their lives in other ways.
