Entering its season opening game at North Carolina State University Saturday, the big question surrounding UNM's football team will be if the new and inexperienced backfield can duplicate the success of last year's backfield.
Angela Williams sounds as though she has not been keeping up with current events or simply has a hidden agenda. First of all, our "plunging stock market" has actually been on the rise in the last two weeks and more so in recent days. I'll admit the pending baseball strike is troubling, but they are not yet striking as Williams infers, only a date has been set, and a new proposal looks like it may settle the issue before a work stoppage occurs.
Six UNM students participated in a field study this summer on eco-tourism and rural development in conjunction with the Universidad de Quintana Roo, located in Chetumal, Mexico.
Justine Eichhorst, a senior at Cibola High School, and Jason Tracy, dance by the Duck Pond while waiting for the Wizard of Oz to begin. UNM freshman Fernando Echeverri, right, waits with his friends. The movie was sponsored by the Southwest Film Center and Student Special Events.

Ramsey Jr. Award for Diversity, presented by the American Bar Association to the nation's law school with the greatest amount of ethnic diversity in students, faculty and programs. "This is not the first such recognition we have received," said Peter Winograd, associate dean of UNM's School of Law.
by Richard M. Berthold Daily Lobo Columnist Bill Gordon is gone now, off to be provost and no doubt soon president of Wake Forest University. He was probably the best we could do: unlike most he was a long-time faculty member at UNM and appeared to have some genuine concern for students and faculty (though most of the innovations in undergraduate teaching should be credited to University College dean Peter White.
It's been a very disturbing year. Perhaps every year is eerie and strange in its way, but the events from the end of 2001 straight through 2002 have affected this country's mindset in new and troubling ways. The obvious, of course, is Sept. 11, and as the anniversary looms ever closer the memory of that day rings louder and louder.
Looking for an engaging film? Something with deep undercurrents that deals with severe issues present in the world today? "Simone," starring Al Pacino, is one of the most clever films to be released this year. The film masquerades as a comedy and does a superb job.
Former UNM professor Cynthia Lopez filed suit against UNM and three employees of the medical school last week claiming that she was harassed, discredited and retaliated against for "doing her job." Lopez is a medical professional who has been working within UNM's academic community for the past five years.
