Gonzales leads Lobos to eighth at OSU invite

Staff Report Led by junior Sarah Gonzales, the University of New Mexico women's cross country team ran to an eighth place finish in a field of 16 teams at the 66th annual Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla. Gonzales, now fully recovered from an early season illness, led the team for the second straight race.

Engineering professor honored for contributions

Staff Report Jeff Brinker, UNM professor of chemical and nuclear engineering and chemistry has been named one of seven recipients of the E.O. Lawrence Award, given to recipients for outstanding contributions in the field of atomic energy. "I'm of course extremely honored to be the recipient of this award.

MWC gets four weekend wins

Mountain West Conference teams won four-of-five non-conference games on this, the final full weekend of non-conference play. Wyoming 34, The Citadel 30 Derek Armah rushed for a career high 181 yards and scored the winning touchdown with 6:12 left as the University of Wyoming snapped a school-record 12-game losing streak.

Corpse discovered in SRC dorm room

Officials from UNM Police Department and the state's Office of the Medical Investigator are still trying to identify a body discovered Friday inside a Student Residence Center. UNMPD Commander James Daniels said due to the amount of decomposition that had taken place prior to the discovery of the body, police are having to use alternative methods of identification.

UNM spikers find roadtrip to Utah unkind

Staff Report The UNM volleyball team lost two road matches this weekend to Mountain West Conference rivals Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. Utah 3, UNM 1 On Friday, the Lobos traveled to 20th-ranked Utah and got off to a good start winning the first game 30-25.

Lobos get split on Oregon trip

Staff report The UNM women's soccer team defeated Portland State University Sunday take one of two matches its final pair of non-conference road games. The Lobos (7-5-0) lost to Oregon State University (7-2-2) Friday, but bounced back against the Division I-AA Vikings Sunday afternoon to get a second road trip split in as many weekends.

We have bad drivers in New Mexico? No way. The Albuquerque Journal did an interesting piece asking people for their opinions on how they feel about New Mexico drivers and the responses were for the most part honest. New Mexico drivers are some of the worst in the country.

Showdown at the Lobo Corral

What started out as a soccer match ended more like a showdown at the OK Corral when UNM finally scored in double overtime for a 1-0 victory on Sunday Afternoon. Coming off two losses on the road, the Lobos returned to the UNM Soccer Complex determined to keep their undefeated home record in tact.
