Capoeira a stunning art form
November 13Handstand, back-flip, jump, kick, headstand - the human body is an amazing vessel, capable of almost anything. At first glance, Capoeira seems like a martial art-based method of self-defense. An abundance of movements incorporated in Capoeira are grounded in martial arts, such as controlled kicks and front and back-flips executed slowly and precisely.

LETTER: Attack of chairman unfair, lacks clarity
November 13Editor, Like any former journalist perusing the pages of a student newspaper in search of that tingling sensation I get after reading good leads and headlines, I opt not to comment. My standard practice is to read the editorials and commentaries, laugh at the proverbial fanning of the flames and move on.
COLUMN: Iraqi war seemingly inevitable
November 13by Craig A. Butler Daily Lobo Columnist The international community has joined behind a new U.N. resolution that will force Iraq to open itself to weapons inspections or face the consequences. Many who hope to see democratic reforms in Iraq and other Arab nations are concerned that a U.
Comic life not all fun and games
Eric Howerton | November 13A documentary about comedians shouldn't have to be funny. Anyone expecting to leave the theaters with a stitch in the side and an increased repertoire of one liners might be a tad disappointed with the new Jerry Seinfeld documentary "Comedian." "Comedian" chronicles a chapter in the life of Jerry Seinfeld the person, rather than Jerry Seinfeld the television character.

The first alleged incident occurred Oct. 28, when a UNM student, Justin Bacon, reportedly forced his way into a female resident's room in Coronado Hall and held her down while he made skin-to-skin contact with her breasts and buttocks without her permission.

COLUMN: Modest proposal for C&J
November 12by Sari Krosinsky Daily Lobo columnist There have been quite a few naysayers to the Communication and Journalism Department's decision to withdraw its application for accreditation. I, however, must take department chairman Brad Hall's part, and say that this decision bodes to be a great boon for students.
LETTER: Kiska's suggestion violates federal act
November 12Editor, The headline for M. Lourdes Brito's letter in last Thursday's Daily Lobo should have said "Kiska's retirement comment illegal" rather than merely "petty." What Mr. Kiska suggested to the Board of Regents at its committee meeting on Nov. 5 is not only offensive - it is also a violation of the federal Age Discrimination Act of 1975.
31Knots stands alone in a sea of clones
November 12by Abel Horwitz Daily Lobo In a musical world where originality is shunned and people still think Eminem is the next Elvis, some of us are almost salivating for something different. We need a band deeper underground, one that's invisible on the radar of the mainstream.

LETTER: Not hard to check facts
November 12Editor, In yesterday's column, "Good guys never come out winners," on page 6, by Mike Still, he says, "Few Democrats spoke loudly against an invasion of Iraq and in the end, the Senate vote allowing for possible military action was 99-1. The lone dissenter was Sen.
'8 Mile' about self-reliance
Nathan Jacquez | November 12To be honest, when I first heard that rapper Eminem was slated to star in a movie based on his life, I couldn't help but remember similar pop-star movie disasters. Remember 1991's train wreck "Cool As Ice," starring Vanilla Ice? Or the 2000 catastrophe "Da Hip Hop Witch," starring Vanilla Ice and Eminem? How about "Glitter," the embarrassment that killed Maria Carey's career? And there's always moments of cinematic greatness like the sweet coming of age skin-flick staring Britney Spears in her bra and panties and anything with Snoop Dog's name attached to it.
