Right to dance is not a crime
Margarita Ortega y Gomez | March 13There are so many issues in this world to be concerned about — who knew one of them was going to be the simple act of dancing? The RAVE (Reducing American’s Vulnerability to Ecstasy) Act is not a new topic of discussion, but is still a major issue concerning our very basic rights and freedoms.

COLUMN: New bill mocks academia
March 13by Richard M. Berthold Daily Lobo Columnist The New Mexico State Legislature is confirming a suspicion I have entertained for 30 years: its only serious interest in the University of New Mexico is that it provide winning football and, especially, basketball teams.

Play humorous, yet lacking
Abel Horwitz | March 12The critically acclaimed Aquila Theatre Company made a stop at Popejoy to perform William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Saturday. Though Shakespeare is known as a master of expressing human emotion, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is his equivalent of a Marx Brothers movie.
Spiritu on the Road: Rock-star fantasy becomes reality
March 12by John D. Bess Daily Lobo For the last two and a half years, I've lived a double life -- mild-mannered college student by day, groove-possessed rock monster by night. But now my secret is out. In spite of the glances from conservative peers and jaded comments to "grow up already," the unthinkable has happened.
COLUMN: New York trip ends up in Broadway play adventure
Dustin Habermann | March 12A recent business trip landed me in New York City for a weekend where I filled my days and nights studying marketing and business strategies. Just kidding. It was just a shallow excuse for me to go to a lot of Broadway shows. The first show I saw was "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," a play with a little music about the effects of racism on its victims.
Firebombs hit local eateries
Jeff Proctor | March 12Three local fast-food restaurants, including one directly across from campus, and a police car were struck with firebombs early Tuesday morning, causing varying degrees of damage but no injuries. LETTER: Troop support should be to bring them back
March 12Editor, I love this country and every decent citizen in it with all my heart. Especially the brave men and women who have sworn to protect it. They are burdened with a very hard and necessary job and for that I admire and thank them. Unfortunately, somewhere in the sea of rhetoric, somebody has come up with the idea if you're against impending war with Iraq; you're against the people who will be fighting the war.
LETTER: Take guest column with grain of salt
March 12Editor, Steve Chavez's guest column "Many peace groups corrupt," in the March 11 Lobo used an e-mail reply from me without my permission to support a ridiculous misnomer to classify the New Mexico Solidarity Network as somehow attached to the Communist Party.

Israeli-Palestinian conflict debated
March 12by Vincent J. Narducci Daily Lobo An intense debate about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at UNM may have been able to accomplish a little bit of what decades of war and death have not -- creating some type of mutual understanding. The Tuesday night panel discussion at the University's School of Law included a presentation to establish the history behind the conflict, two speakers passionately arguing for each nation and a moderator who said that despite a heated argument, he thought panelists eventually achieved a better understanding for each other and for the issues addressed.

Art exhibit twofold: to enjoy, teach
Elizabeth CookRomero | March 12The show on display at the UNM Art Museum, "Highlights of the Collection," is too rich to see in just one visit. In spite of the depth of the collection, on many days the museum is almost empty. "More people nationally and internationally know about this collection than people on campus," said Michael Certo, curator of the education and public programs for the museum.
Fraternity presidents reconcile differences

Campus police were called to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house twice after receiving phone calls regarding loud music and beer bottles being thrown in the direction of the Phi Gamma Delta house.
Execution, scenery of ‘Crucible’ too perfect
Amber L. Earls | March 113 Stars for Design, 4 Stars for Acting This production of “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller at the Albuquerque Little Theatre is a great representation of one of the most poignant plays in history. It is based on the Salem Witch Trials and was written by Miller during the McCarthy-Era witch hunts.
