The atmosphere in Keller Hall Monday for the screening and discussion of “The Two Towns of Jasper” — a documentary film about the racially motivated murder of a Texas man, was open and calm. The event moderator, Marsha Hardeman, began the event by asking the packed crowd questions like, “How many of you have been involved in a racist or discriminative situation?” Very few people raised their hands.

Billy Corgan resurfaces in Mary Star of the Sea

A decade ago, a gangly, greasy rocker from Chicago released Siamese Dream and gave millions a feeling of fetal warmth using androgynous vocals and soothing cadence as his vehicle. Then he shaved his head and looked like a fetus. After several multi-platinum albums, Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan dissolved his band, slept with Courtney Love, wrote her an album and then jumped back on the mechanical bull of rock and roll.

EDITORIAL: Power of Internet petitions explored

I received an interesting e-mail petition the other day, titled "Impeach Bush." In fact, a Web site has actually been created at www.votetoimpeach.org for this online petition. Most people are aware of online petitions -- one just went around earlier this month asking to boycott Vanity Fair and writer letters to the magazine for printing a column that many in the Hispanic community found offensive.

Lobo golfers staying steady

The UNM men's golf team grabbed a share of second place in the John Burns Invitational near Honolulu, Hawaii Feb. 19-21. The Lobos shot under-par as a team in each of the three rounds, finishing with a 14-under total of 850, tied with the San Diego State University Aztecs, seven shots behind the University of Arizona.
