LETTER: Police busts on parties need not be aggressive

Editor, In my three long years of college I’ve been to my fair share of parties, of which a fair share have been broken up by the cops. All of my police encounters involved with parties have been business as usual, until about 15 minutes ago. I was at a party at a good friend of mine’s house, which was incidentally broken up by the cops.

The UNM women’s tennis team notched a victory over Brigham Young University 4-3 Saturday for only the second time in school history. Lobos lose chance at Elite 8

The UNM women’s basketball team took a bitter 71-48 defeat at the hands of Texas Tech University Saturday, ending the Lobos’ sweet run through the NCAA Tournament. The stage was set for the Lobos’ first ever appearance in the Elite Eight, but despite The Pit rockin’ in legendary fashion, UNM could not overcome a defining18-0 run by Tech to end the first half.

Women's golf steady, men struggle

Women Three days of steady climbing up the leaderboard earned the UNM women's golf team a tie for third place at the Pioneer Electronics UCLA Bruin Classic March 24-26 in Santa Clara, Calif. With rounds of 306-307-304-917, the Lobos finished 53 over-par and tied with Texas Tech University at the 6,254 yard, par-72 Robinson Ranch Valley Course.

Caldera would like to see UNM reach higher status

Louis Caldera wants to be the next president of UNM because, he says, of the kind of institution UNM is. "One of the challenges will be to put the necessary resources together to be one of the best," Caldera said. "I'd like to generate a sense of excitement for what the possibilities are.

Lobo sluggers look to extend hot streak

The UNM baseball team will take a break from conference action this weekend when it plays host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game series. The Lobos have been on a tear so far in the young spring season, posting an impressive 19-10 overall record including 7-2 in the Mountain West Conference.

The Student Health Center celebrated National Nutrition Day by distributing information and free merchandise to educate the UNM community about healthy eating habits. "It encouraged me to be more nutritious," said Justin Richter, a junior family studies major.

UNM car burglaries may be connected

UNM police are describing a series of auto break-ins that took place during spring break as typical "smash and grab" burglaries. Four students reported on March 19 that their cars, all parked in the fraternity and sorority house area of campus, were burglarized.

Lobo fans will have to wait one more day to cheer on the women's basketball team in the Sweet 16 when UNM plays Texas Tech University on Saturday night at The Pit. The Lobos are trying to make history once again by moving on to the Elite Eight with a victory against the Lady Raiders.

LETTER: War effort garners approval, support

Editor, People around the world continue to question the war in Iraq. Those for and against the war have made sensible, credible arguments supporting their causes. Some of the strongest arguments that come to mind against the war are: inspections would have worked if given enough time, the costs of the war are tremendous, we shouldn't be risking the lives of others for oil and money.
