Football: Davie hires Tuitele with mind on the run

The New Mexico football team will rely on one of its new coaches to get the offensive line prepped for the season. The Lobos look like they may add some new wrinkles to the offensive game, but will still rely heavily on the option as its bread and butter.

Volleyball: New Mexico slated for a strong season despite key losses

The UNM volleyball squad is poised for a good year, despite losing vital players in the middle block and at the setter position. There will be no replacing Hannah Johnson, the quarterback of the group, and the leader for such a long amount of time. However, head coach Jeff Nelson said the Lobo attack is going to be fierce with four seniors on the outside.

Track and Field: Frerichs' stint in Rio ends with 11th place finish

Former Lobo Courtney Frerichs helped propel the United States to an impressive finish in her event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. All three of the U.S. women placed in the top 11, but it was Ruth Jebet of Bahrain who ran away from the field. She outdistanced her competition by over seven seconds, winning the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:59.75.

Football: Stadium enhancements designed for fan enjoyment

By Robert Maler Seeing a favorite team or alma mater take the field is all the incentive most college football fans need to go out to a game, but New Mexico's faithful fans can start looking forward to some additional benefits that aim to enhance the game day experience in 2016. The New Mexico football season kicks off in less than three weeks, with its home opener against South Dakota on Thursday, Sept. 1.

Men's Soccer: Strong spring season hopes to translate to fall

If the fall exhibition season is anything like the spring, the UNM men’s soccer team will be in good shape. Less than a week into their official fall training, the Lobos are getting ready to begin the preseason. They will get three matches over three dates, starting with University of Nevada Las Vegas on Monday, continuing with Fort Lewis on Thursday and finishing with Washington on Saturday.

Football: Two-QB system highlights team captains

New Mexico football has named its four team captains for the upcoming season, and the selections are unprecedented in more ways than one. The team elected senior linebacker Dakota Cox, safety Daniel Henry and the two starting quarterbacks from last season, Austin Apodaca and Lamar Jordan.

Men's Soccer: Lobos look to right the ship in 2016

After a long summer break, players and coaches returned to Robertson Field for the first official Lobo men’s soccer practice of the season on Wednesday morning. “I’ve been anxiously awaiting today and came away feeling great. I really like this team,” said head coach Jeremy Fishbein. “Energy levels were good today. The players where fit, sharp, unified. All you could ask for, for a first practice.”

Tennis: Search for next head coach comes to a close

Change doesn’t necessarily mean some things can’t stay the same. New Mexico completed the search for a pair of new tennis head coaches. Although there will be some new faces at the helm, a pedigree of success is something the new hires can continue to build on.

Track and Field: First female athlete from UNM to compete in Olympics

Shortly after setting a new collegiate record, 9:24.41, in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase last month, Frerichs signed a professional contract, joining Bowerman Track Club, to continue training for the Olympic Trials. Frerichs’ dream became a reality when she qualified for the Olympics with a late burst to finish second in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase in Eugene, Ore. on July 7, finishing in 9:20.92.

Men's Tennis: Lobos stay in house for new men's tennis head coach

New Mexico decided to “keep it in the family” and announced former player and assistant coach Ben Dunbar as its new men’s tennis head coach. Dunbar played tennis for the Lobos from 2008-2012 and served as the assistant coach for the past two seasons, joining the staff when his predecessor, Bart Scott, took over the program.

Tennis: Lobos in search for pair of coaches

The New Mexico tennis program has been dealt another hard blow, leaving both tennis teams leaderless. Head coach Bart Scott of the men's squad recently announced his resignation to pursue a career in the private sector. Now multiple reports have confirmed former UNM women's tennis head coach Kelcy McKenna has accepted a coaching position at the University of Wisconsin.

Track and Field: Former Lobo qualifies for spot in Olympics

Last month, at the NCAA outdoor championships, Frerichs set a new collegiate record in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, turning in a time of 9:24.41. Television analysts said Frerichs had a good chance to make the Olympic team if she could shave another four seconds off her time—on Thursday, she did exactly that.
