Football: Lobos rout South Dakota after slow start

For a few short minutes it looked like New Mexico might be in trouble against South Dakota. Trailing 14-7 in the middle of the first quarter, UNM let a couple of mistakes – a fumble and a missed tackle – allow USD (0-1) to gain an upper hand. That score didn’t last long as the Lobos went on to score the next 28 points, taking control of a game that would end up being a 48-21 win Thursday night at University Stadium.

Volleyball: Lobos eye perfect weekend in South Florida

After nearly sweeping the weekend, New Mexico turns its attention to the Sunshine State to partake in the USF Tournament. The tournament will consist of Stetson, South Florida and Western Carolina in Tampa, Florida. Stetson will be first on the horizon for the Lobos, with first serve scheduled for 9 a.m. MT.


The Lobos will kick off their 2016 campaign on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at University Stadium against the South Dakota Coyotes. The game will serve as a point of reference for head coach Bob Davie to decide which players deserve more playing time at the start of the season.

Football: Starting QB kept secret for opening kickoff

Bob Davie knows who will take the first snap for the Lobos in its season opener Thursday, but fans and the opposing team will not find out until kickoff. The New Mexico head coach declined to name a starter in Monday’s press conference, but did say that both Lamar Jordan and Austin Apodaca would see time on the field.

Volleyball: Younger look generates winning result

The final game of the UNM Tournament on Saturday night had a different rotation than what most were expecting, one boasting a more youthful appearance. After a thrilling 3-1 victory over Arizona State late Friday, the Lobos came out flat in the first game of Saturday’s double header, head coach Jeff Nelson said.

Women's Soccer: Ranked opponents give UNM winless start

The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team looked to bounce back after their 2-1 loss last Friday at Tech Texas, but fell short in a 2-0 loss to No. 21 California on Friday to remain winless on the young season. The Lobos came out of the gate aggressive and finding opportunities early. During the first 15 minutes of the game the Lobos outshot the Bears 4-2. 




The women’s soccer team form together to celebrate their victory against San Jose State late in the fall 2015 season. The Lobos will play California University this Friday in Berkeley, California.

Women's Soccer: Two opening games, two ranked opponents

Following New Mexico’s season opening loss to No. 19 Texas Tech on the road, the women’s soccer team is headed to the west coast to take on yet another ranked opponent in the California Golden Bears. The Lobos (0-1-0) scheduled to start the season away from home, playing its first seven matches away from the UNM Soccer Complex.

Men's Soccer: Lobos take on No. 13 Indiana to open season

When it comes to their season opener, the Lobos aren’t cautiously wading into the water, they are diving in head first. The UNM men’s soccer team will travel to South Bend, Indiana to face the Indiana University Hoosiers, a team that is currently ranked at No. 13. This is part of the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament weekend. The Lobos play Indiana on Friday and Notre Dame on Sunday.

Football: Dual quarterback system not problematic for Davie

When a team sits one quarterback down, it is usually thanks to an injury or because he was benched for poor play. However, instances of two-quarterback play may have occurred more often than one might think—especially in recent history. As recently as last season, defending champion Ohio State entered the season with a similar conundrum.

Volleyball: Lobos sweep only preseason competition

Former New Mexico stars took to Johnson Gym on Saturday night in the first showcase of this year’s 2016-2017 squad. Though the stats and competition won’t officially start counting until Friday afternoon, when the Lobos take on Abeline Christian, head coach Jeff Nelson got the performances he was looking for during his team’s 4-0 sweep over the Alumnae team.

Soccer: Defense doesn't allow a single goal in preseason

A lone goal and a strong defense helped the Lobos in a 1-0 victory over the University of Washington Huskies for their third and final preseason match on Saturday. Senior forward Niko Hansen banged in his fourth goal of the week with just six minutes remaining on the clock. This game-winner was also his 11th goal in 2016, as he scored seven in the spring.

Volleyball: Tough road begins with Cherry vs. Silver

A rigorous 2016 schedule for UNM's volleyball squad begins on Saturday with an annual alumnae game, the program's only exhibition match of the season. Former players representing a myriad of eras of the program will partake in the preseason affair, as the Lobos get ready to host their first tournament of the year beginning on August 28.

Men's Soccer: Lobos remain unblemished in preseason

Two down, one to go. The Lobos finished their second exhibition match with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Thursday morning. The Lobos were coming off of a 3-0 win against the UNLV Rebels earlier this week, which allowed UNM to enter Thursday’s match with confidence.
