Indiana U cross country team suspected of hazing (U-WIRE) BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A week after eight freshmen were arrested near Indiana University's Bill Armstrong Stadium for public indecency, the Office of Student Ethics will look over the case and decide whether to pursue the incident as possible hazing.
University students are at high risk for transmittable diseases, according to the UNM Student Health Center. Five hundred and forty-eight students walked into the Student Health Center's Allergy and Immunization Clinic during the month of August and received an immunization, said Nikki Beneke, a registered nurse at the center.
UNM senior administrators don't have to do anything right or wrong to lose their jobs. They can be let go if the position is not the right fit or if the president of the University wants someone else in the position, said Susan Carkeek, vice president of Human Resources.
The political science department is giving students the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with the political world for academic credit. District Court Judge Robert Thompson ruled that requiring first-time voters to present ID at the polls would cause more harm than good. "Because the plaintiffs' request for extraordinary relief comes approximately 60 days before election, granting the relief the plaintiffs require would likely cause disruption of the conduct of the election and would disrupt the ability of a significant number of voters to cast their votes," Thompson stated in the order.
Agora Crisis Center put up an art exhibit in front of Zimmerman Library today in observation of Suicide Prevention Week, which lasts until Saturday. The exhibit features a tunnel of cloth with more than 300 handprints representing the number of New Mexicans who committed suicide in 2002, which is the most recent data available.

An injunction requiring first-time voters to present IDs at the polls was denied Tuesday by State District Judge Robert Thompson. "This is a victory for young people," said James Moore, state director of the New Voters Project. "One hundred and twelve thousand new voters have registered in the last year and a half.

Border Patrol seizes drugs near Alamagordo ALAMOGORDO (AP) - Border Patrol agents who searched a car at a checkpoint on U.S. 54 near Alamogordo seized $4.2 million in cocaine. Agents who stopped the car at the inspection station about 1:30 p.m. Saturday said the driver displayed "unusual mannerisms," so they sought and were given permission for a search.

Labor union representatives told the UNM Hospital administration Friday some employees have been denied pay raises. The representatives told the administration it is in violation of the Public Employees Bargaining Act that took effect July 1, 2003. The act requires the hospital to provide information to union members to verify pay raise contracts are implemented properly.
