It's like uncharted territory. There are more than 140 animals staring visitors in the face when they walk into the Hibben House. But what visitors? Since 2002, there haven't been many. When Frank Hibben was alive, students would sit among the animals and have conversations.

Memorial recognizes body donors' contribution

John Nicholson said he didn't understand why his grandmother donated her body to science until he came to a memorial service held by the medical school honoring her gift. "It was something she wanted to do personally," Nicholson said. "I never considered it.

One-day fast gives students chance to help homeless

At least 100 UNM students might go to bed hungry on Wednesday - voluntarily. For the second annual UNM Fast-a-Thon, students pledge to abstain from food from sunup until sundown for one day. For every pledge, a local sponsor will donate $5 to Project Share, a food provider for the homeless in the University area.

UNMH down to 15,000 flu shots

It's not flu season in New Mexico, but UNM clinics have been giving out about 300-400 flu shots per day. Jim Krieger, director of the clinical pharmacy services at UNM Hospital, said they bought 35,000 does this year and have administered 20,000 so far.

Students protest lack of resources

A group of about 40 UNM students stood outside of the School of Architecture and Planning to demand access to its resource center yesterday. One week ago, students and the department's shop supervisor, Fred Mahinfarahmand, protested the restrictive hours of the shop and what they said was ill treatment of Mahinfarahmand.

CIRT dispels rumors of printing charges

by Xochitl Campos Daily Lobo Rumors suggested CIRT might begin charging for the use of printers in the computer pods around campus. CIRT Director Bill Adkins and Associate Director Linda Miller discredited these rumors. Both said they had not heard of a plan to begin charging for the use of printers in the computer pods.

Suicide ends SWAT standoff

A 45-year-old unnamed Albuquerque man shot himself after barricading himself in a house on the 200 block of Cornell Drive. A SWAT standoff tied up the area around Cornell Drive and Lead Avenue for more than four hours yesterday. A heavy police presence began building in the area at about 1 p.

Regents get Caldera's goals in writing

UNM President Louis Caldera's goals for the year have been put to paper. The Board of Regents met Thursday to finalize written initiatives for the president's next year. Regent Mel Eaves said they began working on objectives for the president after a retreat three months ago.

Bush victory sparks mixed reactions

County clerk predicts smooth election

Bernalillo County Clerk Mary Herrera said Monday she expects polls on Election Day to be relatively quiet. She estimated about 320 people will vote at each precinct. There are 162 polling locations in Bernalillo County. "It may not take as long to vote as you think it will," she said.

D°a de los Muertos honors family, culture

The invitation said to bring one guest, but he or she couldn't be alive. Posters from the Mexican embassy were hung, crepe paper marigolds were made, and guests ate pan de muerto adorned with skulls and bones.
