Emotion, maturity mark latest Change in Beck's apporach

If Beck were to create his own brand of gluten-free, soy-based ice cream, undoubtedly the flavor portfolio would consist of Dictionary Blender Sherbert, Almond Neolo-gelatti-ism, and Vanilla Folk Explosion. The latter flavor acts on the taste buds much like Beck's new album, Sea Change, affects the inner workings of the ear - simple, untainted and classic.

by Sari Krosinsky Daily Lobo In the lyrical tradition of Sappho, Myria Mandell writes poetry with unfettered honesty. Her instinct for rich detail brings the reader inside the world of her family and relationships - a world both familiar and new. The Daily Lobo interviewed Mandell, an Albuquerque poet who recently self-published a book of poetry, These Little Pieces of Me.

Band is Chronic chamleon, musically

Lately, no matter which calendar of events I look at, the name Chronic Logic seems to be popping up at most venues around town. From Club Rhythm and Blues to the Launchpad to Sonny's, these guys are everywhere - and rightfully so. It would amaze most who have heard them to learn that Chronic Logic has only been playing together since February.

Copley's debut record Limited by mediocrity

When did journal entries become acceptable as poetry or advertising copy or song lyrics? Someone please tell me so I can figure out how someone like Marc Copely got a recording contract. This 20-something songwriter's debut Limited Lifetime Guarantee is awash in poor lyricism that was no doubt lifted directly from the man's battered, yet banal loose-leaf notebook.

Lagwagon Let's Talk About Leftovers

Lagwagon is undeniably one of the most persevering and consistently kick-posterior punk bands to surface in the 90s. The band has compiled more than 20 tracks of catchy, emotional, funny and inspired songs for their re-issue of Let's Talk About Leftovers.

Leaning a solid and consistent CD

One of the most popular and prominent local bands, Feels Like Sunday, has an amazing amount of talent and humility. The band has released two albums. The first was Tedious Bliss, and just this August, Leaning Against the Wind came out. Leaning Against the Wind is a remarkable album, despite the poor production.

Nad Navillus a one man music show

Nad Navillus, the solo work of Chicago-based artist Dan Sullivan, has a lot to say. Sullivan, the man behind the music, has collaborated with many people who have contributed to his songs and lyrics. But the music is, without a doubt, a one-man show.

Dragpipe embraces familiar, overdone neo-metal formula

Creepy, over-developed black and white photos, three guitarists and no talent, flagrant displays of tattoos, references to fatality - does this sound familiar? Dragpipe, the newest six-member neo-metal super troupe has no problem being as formulaic as a linear equation and as boring as chicken broth.

Gay and Lesbian film fest unusual

by Rafael Gallegos Daily Lobo This year's Gay and Lesbian Film Festival at the Southwest Film Center offered the usual cinematic fare - three documentaries and a full-length narrative. The subject matter, however, was anything but the usual. My weekend at the cinema started out with a disturbing look at a proselytizing haunted house.

Steve Earle CD Review

Steve Earle is the epitome of Americana. And since you can't spell that musical genre without using the word American, it's not a stretch to say he's the epitome of an American songwriter. On his latest CD, "Jerusalem," Earle's get his juice from the lineage of Woody Guthrie and his musical heir, Bob Dylan.
