Where there’s a victor, there’s a loser, and sometimes certain athletes contribute to their team’s or their own shortcomings. These athletes are favorably called bobbleheads.
This week in the UFC, we had firework fights and lackluster fights. Here are some athletes who fell off.
Drew Dober (27-15-0)
Drew Dober has had a good fighting career, but has recently been struggling. Dober is currently on a three-fight losing streak.
During his first fight in 2025 in UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs. Erceg, Dober got knocked out in the first round less than two minutes in. This occurred when Manuel Torres hit him with a left straight jab and overhand right punch combination in the co-main event on March 29 in Mexico City.
Torres poured on the pressure, causing the first-round knockout. Dober did not seem to know where he was after the fight was over. Fans questioned whether he should continue at this level at age 36.
Vinc Pichel (14-5)
Forty-two-year-old Vinc Pichel has a record of 14-5. Pichel’s critics have argued that he has only fought 13 times in 12 years, and he hasn’t won a single fight since 2021.
Pichel has had a good run in recent memory, but since 2021, he has gotten older. He also made an appearance on the undercard of UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs Erceg, where he put on a decent performance. Nonetheless, he still lost, totalling his losing streak up to three.
Pichel’s opponent, Rafa García, took control with two takedowns. García just had the edge, leading to a victory via unanimous decision.
Maybe, just like Tony Ferguson or Stipe Miocic, it's better to not service the fans by fighting after your prime in a sport where damage adds up.
