Isotopes drop first game of the series against the Salt Lake Bees

The Albuquerque Isotopes had a 15-1 loss against the Salt Lake Bees on Tuesday, April 1. This was the first game of the series between the Isotopes and Bees. To add insult to injury, this was also the Isotopes home opener for the season — one they will look to forget.

Pitching and batting were the two biggest issues for the Isotopes all night. The weather for the game could have been a factor in the Isotopes’ struggle, as the wind was intense. But it cannot be used as an excuse, considering the Bees played in the same conditions and scored 15 runs.

Not much action happened in the first inning, but in the second inning the Bees scored two runs on the Isotopes. The Bees' time batting in the second ended after a nice double play by the Isotopes. But despite the nice play by the Isotopes that sent them out to bat, they were unable to do anything, struggling to hit.

Both teams did not score a run in the third inning, but in the fourth inning, the Bees scored four runs on the Isotopes, extending their lead to 6-0. The Isotopes didn’t get on the board until the sixth inning, where they scored their one and only run.

Being down 6-1 going into the eighth inning, it was clear that the Isotopes were hurting from that four-run fourth inning by the Bees. Despite that, the Isotopes looked to rally late. All hope of a late rally was lost, however, when the Bees scored a whopping nine runs at the start of the inning. It was clear that this inning really sucked the life out of the Isotopes.

Players looked frustrated and defeated, at times appearing like they were ready to just get out of the stadium.

This tone carried into the ninth and final inning. By the end, the Isotopes headed into the locker room with a loss. The Isotopes will look to try and even the series out against the Bees on Wednesday, April 2.
