The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team’s recently released a schedule for the upcoming 2021-22 season. The new schedule includes two exhibition games, nine home games and eleven conference games. The first home game is an exhibition match on Aug. 16 against Fort Lewis College.
Matches to look forward to include the return of the University of Washington, former recurring competitors who also went to the NCAA tournament last season, and Northern Arizona University, who was one COVID-19 incident away from a conference championship and a berth to the NCAA tournament as well. Boise State is another formidable appointment, who went 5-4-1 last season. The match against San Diego State University is also expected to be a big game; this is the team UNM defeated to win the Mountain West Conference Championship last season.
The 2020-21 season, which was shortened to conference-only competition and played in the spring due to COVID-19 restrictions, was dominated by the Lobos, who went 10-2 overall. Last year, the team won the 2020-21 Mountain West Conference Championship and secured a berth in the 2020 National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament. The Lobos ultimately lost in the second round of the NCAA tournament to Texas Christian University.
