The Roaring Twenties were alive Saturday night at Hotel Albuquerque.
Salsa music could be heard down the halls and men with fedoras and women in boas could be seen walking around the Q Bar, matching the Baz Luhrmann’s inspired theme of the night — The Great Gatsby.
The night’s event, “Salsa for a Girl,” was held to benefit the local organization Casa Aliento. Casa Aliento aims to provide safe housing and transitional living for victims of human trafficking, not only in Albuquerque, but also in Mexico and Guatemala.
In New Mexico, Hispanic communities are at greater risk for sex trafficking. Founder Daniela Romo creates events, such as this one, not only to gather the community, but to raise awareness of modern day slavery
