Men's Basketball: New Mexico fans continue elite tradition

For half a century New Mexico fans have been amongst the elite in the nation to watch UNM men’s basketball.

According to a release on Wednesday, UNM’s 13,030 fans in attendance per 16 home games ranked 23rd in the nation. It is the 50th consecutive year that the Lobos have cracked the top-25.

San Diego State ranked second in the conference averaging 12,210 fans in 20 home games at Viejas Arena. The Aztecs ranked 29th in the nation for home court attendance.

For schools outside the “Power Five” and the Big East, only one school ranked better than UNM.

UNM (17-15, 10-8 MW) finished fifth in the conference and were bounced by Nevada in the team’s first round of the NCAA tournament. The Lobos will look to build on past success and continue its tradition of large crowds in 2016-2017 at WisePies Arena.

This is a continuing story. Check back in at DailyLobo.com for more.
