For the first time in two decades, the Lobos will open up the season on a Thursday night.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3, UNM will now kick off its season against South Dakota on Sept. 1.
The original 12-game schedule, released in early March, features six home games, four of which are against Mountain West opponents.
After the home opener, UNM will bus down to Las Cruces, New Mexico for the Rio Grande Rivalry. The game against New Mexico State will take place on Sept. 9.
The Lobos will continue its road trip against Rutgers on Sep. 17. The Scarlet Knights put together a 4-8 record last season, 1-7 in the Big 10.
To open up October, the Lobos will begin conference play with San Jose State on Oct. 1. SJSU put together a 6-7 overall record and a 4-4 MW record in 2015.
Following a bye week, New Mexico will continue league play with Boise State on Friday, Oct. 7. CBS Sports already gobbled that game up and has set the time for 7 p.m.
Last year, the Lobos pulled off one of the biggest upsets in program history. UNM was picked as 30.5 point underdogs in Boise, Idaho, and ended up returning to Albuquerque with a 31-24 victory on Nov. 14.
The nationally televised contest will be followed with more nationwide coverage against Air Force on Oct. 15 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The game will be televised on ESPN at the neutral site.
The Lobos will then wrap up non-conference play with a home contest against the University of Louisiana Monroe on Oct. 22.
The following Saturday, Oct. 29, UNM will cross the Pacific to take on Hawai'i in Honolulu. The Rainbow Warriors couldn’t muster a win in 2015, finishing last in the league.
Upon its return home, New Mexico will gear up for Nevada on Nov. 5 and will have national coverage for the remainder of the season. Nevada finished with a .500 conference record (4-4) and 7-6 overall on the year.

The Lobos will then go on their final road trip of the season, visiting Utah State (6-7, 5-3 MW) and Colorado State (7-6, 5-3 MW).
In the season finale, UNM will conclude the 2016 -2017 campaign against Wyoming at home. Wyoming put together a 2-10 overall record, 2-6 in conference play.
Kickoff times for all games but the Boise State and South Dakota contests have yet to be announced.
