Football: Lobos dominated by Wolf Pack

New Mexico’s run defense had no answer for Nevada’s pistol offense, allowing the Wolf Pack to rush for 351 yards in a 35-17 rout in Reno, Nevada on Saturday.

The Wolf Pack’s one-two punch of running backs Don Jackson and James Butler ran for 152 yards and 145 yards, respectively. Butler also scored a touchdown.

In the second half, the Lobos received a spark from cornerback Nias Martin when he returned a fumble 77 yards for a touchdown, cutting Nevada’s lead to 21-17.

Nevada quickly responded on its next drive with a four-play, 75-yard possession that ended with quarterback Tyler Stewart hitting tight end Jarred Gipson for an 8-yard score.

UNM had a chance to cut the lead to four points, but wide receiver Dameon Gamblin fumbled the ball at Nevada’s 1-yard line that went into the end zone and was recovered for a touchback by the Wolf Pack (3-3, 1-1 Mountain West).

Running back Teriyon Gipson was the leading rusher for UNM (3-3, 1-1 Mountain West) as he carried the ball 11 times for 68 yards and a touchdown.

The Lobos had just 273 total yards of offense in the loss.
