The UNM Division of Student Affairs, in collaboration with El Mezquite Market, will host the annual Mezquite Golf Tournament on Friday.
The tournament is aiming to raise funds for scholarships for UNM students, according to a UNM press release.
“We are grateful each year for the generosity of El Mezquite Market owner Sergio Bermudez, who brings together a number of donors to contribute to a worthy cause,” Dr. Eliseo ‘Cheo’ Torres, vice president for UNM Student Affairs, said in the press release. “I would also like to thank the consul’s office for matching the total amount of scholarship funds generated by the golf tournament.”
According to the press release, in the past the tournament has helped raise more than $300,000, which was distributed among more than 100 recipients.
“The extent to which the scholarship has benefited me is by aiding me with college expenses and various types of support that I need in order to be successful in college,” said Crystal Saenz, one of the scholarship recipients, according to the statement.
Scholarship applications will be available in September of this year and awarded in November. For questions or more information about the scholarships, contact the College Enrichment and Outreach Program at (505) 277-5321.
