The University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course was chosen as one of the host sites for the NCAA men’s golf regional in 2016 and the women’s golf regional in 2017, the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Golf Committees announced Friday.
“We are excited to have been selected to host regionals for both men’s golf and women’s golf,” Vice President of Athletics Paul Krebs said in a release. “We have a great history of hosting NCAA events, and having the NCAA come back to Albuquerque for these two events will be a great chance to showcase the University of New Mexico and our city.”
UNM’s Championship Golf Course will be one of six regional sites on the men’s side and one of four on the women’s side.
The men’s regional will be May 16-18, 2016, and the women’s regional will be May 8-10, 2017. Up to 14 teams will play in the men’s regional, while at least 18 teams will compete in the women’s regional.

Running back Daryl Chestnut is the latest addition to the Lobos, head coach Bob Davie announced Wednesday. He has three years of eligibility remaining and comes from Coffeyville Junior College.
Chestnut had originally committed to Indiana out of high school but was deemed academically ineligible, according to media reports.
“Daryl is an explosive back that was highly recruited,” Davie said in a statement. “You see him do a lot of great things on film and he has some versatility to make plays in many different ways. He has the potential to be a great addition to our offense.”
In his senior year of high school, Chestnut ran for 1,208 yards and 14 touchdowns.
