Women’s soccer
The New Mexico women’s soccer team clinched the No. 3 seed in the Mountain West Tournament with a 2-1 win over regular-season champion San Diego State on Friday.
UNM has won three straight games and will take on sixth-seed Boise State on Tuesday.
“That was fun,” head coach Kit Vela said. “Against an opponent the caliber of San Diego State, this is about as good as we’ve played all year.”
Junior midfielder Dylan O’Connor nailed the game-winner in the 60th minute.
UNM scored the first goal of the game in the ninth minute via redshirt junior forward Madisyn Olguin. In the 54th minute, SDSU tied the game at 1 after Haley Locker hit the back of the net.
Volleyball
The New Mexico volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches with a four-set victory at Utah State on Saturday.
The set scores were 17-25, 26-24, 25-14 and 27-25.
Redshirt junior setter Hannah Johnson earned her 13th double-double of the season with 48 assists and 10 digs. Redshirt senior right-side hitter Chantale Riddle and sophomore outside hitter Cassie House each had 18 kills in the win.
On Thursday, UNM defeated Boise State in four sets (25-21, 24-26, 25-23 and 25-12) in Boise, Idaho.
Riddle earned 19 kills and had a .410 hitting percentage. House had 15 kills and sophomore outside hitter Devanne Sours recorded 10.
