Wait a second — it’s time to accessorize.
Students can accessorize in a variety of ways; necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings all fall into the category. Accessorizing is a fun and easy way to complete an entire outfit.
It’s important to accessorize in a simplistic way: Don’t over-do it, but at the same time make sure the outfit isn’t too plain.
Earrings are probably the safest way to go. Earrings can transform an outfit from ‘blah’ into ‘wow!’ Studs complement most casual looks. Longer, dangly earrings look best on more over-the-top ensembles and can transform an outfit completely.
Bracelets go well with short-sleeved tops or dresses. Certain bracelets can change the whole vibe of an outfit. If one wears a cuff to finish off their look, it adds a tougher, stronger impression to the outfit. If one has on a beaded or chain bracelet, their outfit gives off a chill, casual presence. Watches also fall into the bracelet category. They make any outfit look more classy and sophisticated. In general, watches look best with more formal clothes, but can also be paired with casual outfits.
Rings are great accessories to have on for those who are meeting someone for the first time because they adds a little flair to the outfit. Rings usually can’t be seen from far away, so it doesn’t really matter what type of ring one wears. Most rings are neutral in color and shape, so it’s just a matter of personal preference.
Necklaces can be great, but be careful with statement pieces. If a necklace has large gems, bright colors or is just big in general, it’s a statement piece and is meant to be worn by itself. In contrast, if the necklace has a little charm or tiny pendant on it, then it can be layered with other necklaces as well. If layering necklaces, make sure to choose the pieces based on the outfit of the day and what kind of vibe the outfit gives off, such as ‘rocker’ or ‘hippie.’
Choosing what pieces to wear with an outfit takes time and creativity. One may want to combine a necklace with a matching ring, or a bracelet with matching earrings. Whatever way someone wants to mix and match is totally up to them, as long as it doesn’t look overdone. Remember: Less is more, and simplicity is key.
