The Lobo Letter

ASUNM to discuss Lottery solvency, skateboard storage

First off, I’d like to congratulate the Lobo football team on its 66-17 victory over NMSU. The game sold out of student tickets, which is something that hasn’t been seen in quite some time.

Together, let’s make it a goal to sell out of student tickets for every sporting event.

Last Thursday, before the big rivalry game, ASUNM’s Lobo Spirit Agency hosted Red Rally. At this event we burned a 15-foot Aggie to the ground. This is a yearly tradition and we had a very large turnout. The staff of the Agency worked diligently and effectively, so I’d like to recognize them and their volunteers for all they did to make this event successful. Thanks to those of you in attendance for your support of the Agency and your fellow Lobos.

Last Wednesday, ASUNM hosted a session in the Student Union Building atrium to gather input from students. Many participated and shared their concerns with the Student Government, but we know that there are many other concerns out there. If ASUNM can support you in any way please stop by our office in the SUB room 1016 or email asunm@unm.edu. Remember — this is your campus and your opinion.

On September 14 there was a Lottery Scholarship summit in the SUB where we had student governments from schools around the state, legislators and other stakeholders in attendance. The result was a few ideas proposed by the representative bodies and we will use these proposals to gather more data moving forward. The third and final workgroup meeting, called upon by senate memorial 101, will be held this Friday in Santa Fe. Here we will begin moving forward with some solutions to ensure the solvency of the scholarship.

Action must be taken soon and we will need the support of students to make this happen.

Keep an eye out for UNM Day at the Legislature. This is your time to take advantage of a trip to the State Capitol in Santa Fe and advocate on issues that matter to you as UNM students. For more information as it progresses, contact the Government Affairs agency at asunmga@unm.edu

ASUNM has had its logo for a very long time, and we have decided it is time for a change. If you can draw or use design software we would like to see what you come up with. The current logo can be found at asunm.unm.edu, but by no means are you limited to this.

Questions and submissions can be sent to asunmdoc.unm.edu
Are you a skateboarder or a longboarder? If so, then you might be excited to hear that ASUNM is taking steps to bring skateboard racks to campus. Much like a bike rack, only for your board, this will allow you to store your board during class time or time that you just don’t want to hold on to it. We welcome feedback on this initiative.

As always, ASUNM is your voice for concerns relating to students. We are always available and here to do our best for you. Contact our office at asunm@unm.edu or 277-5528. Have a good, short week and go Lobos!
