Whew. A late night indeed.
The UNM men’s basketball team rallied from 16 points down in the first half during its midnight season opener early Tuesday, capturing an 86-81 victory over Davidson. The game tipped off at 12:05 a.m. and ended at 2:20 a.m.
It was the second of 11 games in ESPN’s Tip-Off Marathon.
Junior guard Tony Snell led all scorers with 25 points. He was one of four UNM players to reach double figures. Junior guard Kendall Williams added 17 points, sophomore post Alex Kirk had 14 and junior guard Demetrius Walker netted 10.
Junior forward De’Mon Brooks paced Davidson’s scorers with 22 points.
UNM (1-0) won its 43rd season opener at The Pit and its 10th in a row. The Lobos have 79 wins in home openers all time.
UNM out-rebounded Davidson 27-7 in the second half and 45-28 for the game after Davidson led that category by 13-3 at one point. The Lobos outscored the Wildcats 13-0 on second-chance points.
