Prison sentence suspended for witness

SANTA FE (AP) - A key witness in a corruption case involving the state treasurer's office will not serve time in prison for his guilty plea to a state charge of racketeering. Leo Sandoval, who formerly worked in the treasurer's office, was given a five-year sentence on Wednesday, but state District Judge Barbara Vigil suspended it and placed Sandoval on supervised probation for three years.

Man arrested for launching fireworks

PIKESVILLE, Md. (AP) - Mysterious middle-of-the-night blasts and flashes of light had residents puzzled for months - and now a man has been charged with fireworks-related violations. Frederick Lee Mackler, 59, was being held on $1 million bail, facing charges of possession of fireworks without a permit, reckless endangerment and controlled, dangerous substance violations.

City gives free Viagra to senior citizens

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - A working class suburb of Chile's capital began handing out free Viagra to senior citizens Wednesday. Lo Prado Mayor Gonzalo Navarrete said he launched the program because "an active sexuality improves the overall quality of life."
