President David Schmidly will produce a live Web cast today for students, staff and faculty.
Schmidly said he will talk about his strategic plans for UNM and its future.
"If the University tends to just live year to year, I think that's a real mistake with no clear vision or sense of where you're trying to go," he said. "I hope to change that by making the focus on a five-year picture as opposed to a year-to-year picture."
Schmidly said the Web cast will help him reach the UNM community.
"The more I thought about it, the more I thought it was a good idea," he said. "And then I discussed it with the professional media people, and they thought it was an excellent idea, and it sort of led to my decision."
Sean Smock, a support center coordinator for Information Technology Services, said students are encouraged to watch the Web cast at five areas on campus: the SUB Theater; the ITS Computer Pod; Anthropology Building, Room 163; George Pearl Hall Auditorium; and the Domenici Center on North Campus.

Smock said ITS wants students to watch the Web cast at the designated areas to avoid backup on the University's server.
Charlene Trujillo, a senior at UNM, said she might watch the Web cast on campus.
"The designated areas make me want to go watch it," she said.
Schmidly said it's important to hear back from the UNM community.
"I hope to gain people's wisdom," he said. "I hope to hear about what they have to say about the issues and values and some of the things that I think are important for this University in the next five years. I encourage as many students, staff and faculty as possible to attend because it's important. It's our institution. It's our future, and we need to talk about it."
The Web cast will start at 3:30 p.m. To tune in, go to Unm.edu and follow the link to the Web cast.
