UNM will honor student workers this week as part of Student Employment Appreciation week.
The University employs about 6,000 students as part-time employees or members of the work-study program.
The week's events include a job fair Tuesday and an awards presentation for student employees Friday. There will also be a carnival-themed party in the SUB on Tuesday.
Jennifer Gomez-Chavez, director of Title V, a college enrichment and outreach program, said student employees are a vital part of the University.
"It's important for students to feel appreciated for the jobs that they do around campus, because without them, this campus would have a hard time surviving," she said.
Gomez-Chavez said supervisors should show appreciation to their student employees throughout the year.

"Using virtual cards or just telling a student personally that you appreciate the work they do are great ways to show your thanks," she said.
Marisa Castaneda, director of work study, said offering jobs to students is a great way to boost enrollment at UNM.
"The jobs are typically really flexible around the student, and if a student is working a less flexible job, then that might lead to bad grades and maybe even dropping out," she said.
Student Adam Kuhn, an employee at the SUB, said having a job on campus is convenient. The flexibility helps him maintain good grades, he said.
"It saves me a lot of time being able to just walk to work right from class - not to mention my boss will always know when finals are or when there is something to do on campus, so schedules are always super flexible," he said.
