I think he should. I think that it was kind of a harsh punishment. He didn't do it as an act of hate, and he made that very clear.

I would say no. But if he believes as strongly as he says he believes in the reason for why he tore it down, then of course he would want do that.

I don't believe that he should appeal, because he did destroy public property, which is the flag belonging to the University. It's not so much an issue about racism as it is the fact that he did destroy public property.

I think he should get some punishment. If he appeals to completely get away with it - I don't think that's OK.

No. He needs to take responsibility for what he did. You can take down the flag, but don't rip it up. That's a sign of racism to me.
