Environmentalist coalition aims to swing Senate race

(AP) - A coalition of environmental groups is targeting the U.S. Senate race in New Mexico to help swing that seat into the Democratic column. The coalition plans to help Democrat Tom Udall in the race against the winner of the Republican primary, either Steve Pearce or Heather Wilson.

Man suspected of sending hate mail pleads not guilty

CLEVELAND (AP) - A man suspected of writing racially hateful letters to African-Americans, including U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, pleaded not guilty in federal court Thursday. The judge ordered the man, David Tuason, 46, of suburban Pepper Pike, held without bond, pending a pretrial hearing for May 6 and a trial date June 2.

U.S. envoy says opposition won Zimbabwe presidency

PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) - The top U.S. envoy on Africa says the Zimbabwean opposition leader won presidential elections. Assistant U.S. Secretary of State for African Affairs Jendayi Frazer was speaking in South Africa on Thursday at the start of a visit to bolster international pressure on Zimbabwe's government to release election results from March 29 voting.
