Workers say workshop title implies whites are racist

(AP) - A dozen employees at a federal laboratory have objected to the description of an upcoming workshop - entitled "White Privilege and Diversity" - as implying whites are racist. But a Sandia National Laboratories spokesman said the lab didn't write the blurb and merely passed along information.

VT victims' families to get $11M settlement from state

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Families of the victims in the Virginia Tech shootings have reached a tentative $11 million settlement with the state, Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said Thursday. The deal is designed to prevent future lawsuits. Kaine said a "substantial majority" of families of victims of the Virginia Tech shootings agreed to the settlement.

Man accused of terror plot praises bin Laden in video

LONDON (AP) - Jurors saw video Thursday of a man accused of plotting to blow up trans-Atlantic aircraft praising Osama bin Laden and vowing to wage a holy war against nonbelievers. Umar Islam, 29, made the comments in a video found in the trunk of a car belonging to another suspect. Prosecutors say it was a suicide video intended to be viewed after his death.
