Firefighters make progress against wind-fueled blaze

CAPITAN (AP) - The strong winds driving a fire that has burned an estimated 10,000 acres of grass and brush in south-central New Mexico were dying down late Monday afternoon, allowing firefighters to make progress against the blaze.

Child recognized as hero for steering bus to safety

CLEVELAND (AP) - A fast-acting child was credited as a hero Monday for grabbing the wheel of a runaway school bus and steering it into a pillar after the driver apparently left the bus to fill up with gas and take a bathroom break. After all the chaos, 15 students suffered only minor injuries.

On-flight cell phone use to be allowed in Europe

BRUSSELS, Belgium - People can use their cell phones in the skies over Europe later this year under new rules that will allow air travelers to stay in touch - and raise the cringe-inducing prospect of sitting next to a chatterbox at 30,000 feet.
