Albuquerque jail to not hold ICE inmates
(AP) - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has decided against using a Downtown Albuquerque jail to hold its detainees, an agency spokeswoman said. Most of the detainees who would have been placed in the Regional Correctional Center will be held in El Paso, Texas, Leticia Zamarripa said.
Senate advances foreclosure crisis bill
WASHINGTON (AP) - Under growing pressure from voters to do something about the nation's home foreclosure crisis, top Senate leaders agreed Tuesday to at least start with a plan that can win the support of both Democrats and Republicans. The pact between Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, ended weeks of partisan bickering over what to do about the crisis in the housing market.
China: Tibet planned 'suicide attacks'
BEIJING (AP) - China escalated its rhetoric against supporters of the Dalai Lama on Tuesday, accusing the Nobel Peace laureate's backers of planning suicide attacks. The Tibetan government-in-exile dismissed the allegation, saying it remained dedicated to the nonviolent struggle long promoted by their Buddhist leader.
