Daily Lobo: Do you like it here at UNM?
Kelsey Heileman: Yes and no. I wish that it was a little bit more academically rigorous.
DL: What don't you like about it?
KH: The courses aren't challenging for me. I was kind of disappointed in the honors program my first semester, because at La Cueva, the honors classes are a lot more difficult. I don't feel like I'm being challenged here.
DL: What do you think about President Schmidly's plan to raise the admissions standards?

KH: I think that the change needs to be happening at a lower level. I think the entire New Mexican school system needs to be revised. You can't just start to say, "OK, we need to raise the GPA to get into college," when you need to address the problem that's happening at the middle school and high school level.
DL: What do you like most about your classes?
KH: I have some smaller class sizes this semester, and I'm enjoying that. When one has large, lecture-style classes, it's not the same as when you are able to talk to a professor. I think that that's a real big drawback for a freshman is that they have to take such large classes. It's really discouraging.
DL: What do you do in your spare time?
KH: I knit and I make clothes.
DL: Do you sell your stuff somewhere?
KH: I was actually in a craft fair this last fall. Other than that, I knit mainly for myself and for my friends.
DL: What do you knit?
KH: I knit scarves and hats, and I've attempted a sweater and all sorts of things.
DL: And how did the sweater turn out?
KH: A little small in the bust area.
DL: Have you worn it before?
KH: Yeah, but I have to wait for the warmer weather. It's more of a little cardigan. When it gets warmer, I'll wear it.
