Police: Deputy killed man accused of shooting officer
CLOUDCROFT (AP) - State police confirmed Thursday that a man fatally shot by an Otero County sheriff's deputy was fugitive Kurt Sohrbeck. State police initially said Sohrbeck, who was wanted in the wounding of a Lincoln County sheriff's deputy, exchanged gunfire with Sgt. Sean Jett. However, a police spokesman said Sohrbeck was armed with a box cutter.
Two children found dead after hostage situation
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Two children were found dead in a home Thursday morning by police sent to check on them after an armed University of Louisville student was briefly involved in a hostage situation on campus. The woman, a student, was disarmed in about a half-hour and there were no injuries on campus, officials said.
Puerto Rico's governor faces 19 counts of fraud
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - Gov. Anibal Acevedo Vila was charged Thursday with 19 counts in a campaign finance probe, including conspiracy to violate U.S. federal campaign laws and giving false testimony to the FBI.
