High court removes judge for misconduct
SANTA FE (AP) - The state Supreme Court has ordered Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court Judge J. Wayne Griego removed from the bench. The high court went well beyond the Judicial Standards Commission's recommendation that Griego be suspended without pay for 90 days and reprimanded for ticket-fixing.
Sheriff: Woman sat on toilet for two years
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Authorities are considering charges in the bizarre case of a woman who sat on her boyfriend's toilet for two years - so long that her body was stuck to the seat by the time the boyfriend finally called police. Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat.
Belgians face jail for not vaccinating kids
LONDON (AP) - In Belgium, authorities are using an extreme measure to persuade parents to vaccinate their children: prison sentences. Two sets of parents in Belgium were recently handed five-month prison terms for failing to vaccinate their children against polio. Each parent was also fined $8,000.
