Former judge arrested in domestic assault incident

(AP) - A former chief judge for Bernalillo County was arrested Sunday and charged with kidnapping and aggravated battery after neighbors alerted police to a woman screaming for help in his home, an Albuquerque police spokesman said. W. John Brennan, a state district judge for 25 years who resigned in 2004 after pleading guilty to aggravated drunken driving and cocaine possession, is accused of assaulting his girlfriend and preventing her from leaving his Albuquerque home, John Walsh said.

US troops ill from using 'potentially unsafe' water

WASHINGTON (AP) - Dozens of U.S. troops in Iraq fell sick at bases using "unmonitored and potentially unsafe" water supplied by the military and a contractor once owned by Vice President Dick Cheney's former company. Soldiers experienced skin abscesses, cellulitis, skin infections, diarrhea and other illnesses after using discolored, smelly water for personal hygiene and laundry at five U.S. military sites in Iraq.

Israel to build new homes in disputed east Jerusalem

JERUSALEM (AP) - Israel's housing minister on Sunday announced plans to build 750 new homes in a Jewish neighborhood of disputed east Jerusalem. The minister, Zeev Boim, said the construction in Pisgat Zeev would be in addition to the planned expansion of Givat Zeev, a nearby West Bank settlement, announced earlier Sunday.
