A cancelled bus trip didn't stop students from participating in UNM Day at the Capitol on Tuesday.
Students travel to Santa Fe every year to lobby the Legislature.
A bus full of students was scheduled to leave at 7:30 a.m., but the trip was canceled due to icy road conditions.
Twelve members of the Associated Students of UNM made it to Santa Fe for UNM Day.
"We were looking forward to a good turn out this year, and it's a shame it turned out the way it did because of the weather," said Reid Howard, chief of staff for ASUNM. "But we've got 12 good students up here working hard for student initiatives."
Students took turns handing out beaded necklaces at ASUNM's booth.

"We're handing out cherry and silver beads, more than anything, to show school spirit so that everybody around here knows it's UNM Day," Howard said.
ASUNM senators attached notes to the beads given to legislators.
"Some of them are for increase in the work-study money that we're trying to get," Howard said. "And the other ones are to thank them for the money from the Lottery Scholarship."
Howard said she wanted legislators to increase state work-study funding by 25 percent.
Sharon Lee, a research assistant at the Tamarind Institute, said she was lobbying to get about $1 million for the institute.
"We're supposed to move into the old architecture building," she said. "So, we're here to help to raise awareness about lithography and the Tamarind Institute to help raise funds for the building."
Debby Knotts, director of New Media and Extended Learning, set up a booth to promote expanding UNM's online courses.
"We're trying to develop an e-learning system for New Mexico from kindergarten to high school so we can offer courses," she said.
Howard said lobbying for money from the state is a competitive process.
"It's always a challenge to get money when everybody's fighting for the same money," she said.
